An enduring commitment to recovery and support

Glide Housing’s affiliated non-profit organizations, Glide Community Housing and Glide Economic Development Corporation, operate four supportive-housing sites in San Francisco.

Collaborative, Caring Communities

We strive to ensure our residences are places where recovery from drug and alcohol abuse and other harmful behaviors liberates those enslaved by addiction and mental health challenges. Where joblessness is met with job readiness and counseling. Where children grow up in an atmosphere of education and community support. And where hope grows strong.
Our properties are designed to involve residents and enable them to take a leadership role in the operations of their building. Addressing quality-of-life issues in the building and planning activities for its whole community allows residents to grow mentally and spiritually.

Reducing Risks

Reducing Risks and Expanding Futures

We realize that people change in incremental ways and must be offered a range of treatment outcomes in a continuum of care from reducing unsafe practices to abstaining from dangerous behavior. Our service design is based on patience with clear boundaries, and free of judgment or blame. We give residents the space to work on their addictions, while holding them accountable for their behavior.

Many Measures of Success

The success of our residents is measured comprehensively to include incremental improvement in housing, physical and mental health, finance, employment, family, and social support system. Our focus is on strategies that reduce the harm for those residents who are unwilling or unable to stop unsafe health practices. And most of all we recognize relapse, or a return to unsafe practices as part of the recovery process, not as a “failure of treatment.”

Many Kinds of Support

To meet the wide range of needs of our diverse population, we base our support service design on both a clinical and social model. These services include onsite case managers, a licensed clinical and family therapist, nurse practitioner, harm reduction counselor and youth advocacy. Residents can access Health Clinic and Youth and Childcare Center services from the Glide Foundation, our founding organization. We also have a licensed infant day care center on site operated by Cross Cultural Childcare Center.
